Susan P. Scully, MS, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, FAHIMA

Susan P. Scully, MS, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, FAHIMA is the Director of Rowan College at Burlington County’s Health Information Management (HIM) program. Ms. Scully joined RCBC full-time in 2000. She has a degree in Medical Office Assisting from RCBC and has been in the healthcare field since 1980. After working in patient care for several years, her interests turned to medical records. She earned her associate’s degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Independent Study program and RCBC, and in 2005, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Administration from Stephens College and attained the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. She completed her Master's degree in Health Information Management (HIM) with a certificate in Healthcare Informatics in July 2013 at the College of St. Scholastica. 

Ms. Scully has specialized in coding since 1988 and earned her Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential in 1992 and the Certified Coding Specialist-Professional (CCS-P) certification in 1998. She began her career in the HIM department at Deborah Heart and Lung Center as a microfilm clerk and worked her way up to become the Coding Supervisor in 1987. 

An advocate for education in health information and patient access to health information, she is actively involved in the New Jersey Health Information Management Association (NJHIMA) serving as a committee member, secretary, director/delegate, and president (2008-2009). Ms. Scully was named the Distinguished Member of NJHIMA in 2010.

In 2014, Ms. Scully was awarded an AHIMA Triumph Award for Mentoring.  The Mentor Award honors individuals or “teams,” with long records of encouraging students or colleagues to realize their full potential, or have helped them find ways to achieve their best.  Also, in 2014, Ms. Scully was inducted into Burlington County College, Alumni Hall of Fame.

In 2015, Ms. Scully had the great honor of earning Fellowship in the AHIMA.  Fellowship recognizes significant and sustained contribution to advancement of the Health Information Management (HIM) discipline through meritorious service, excellence in professional practice, excellence in HIM education, and advancement of the profession through innovation and knowledge sharing.

Fran DiLorenzo, RHIT

Fran DiLorenzo, RHIA is the Assistant Director of Health Information Management at Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC).  She earned her Coding Program Certificate from Camden County College, an AAS.HIT Degree from RCBC and a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from the City University of NY. 

Ms. DiLorenzo was hired by Rowan College at Burlington County in 2004 to assist with the planning and execution of numerous educational grants. In 2009, she joined the Health Information Technology Department as the Outcomes Manager for Project CODE, a Community-Based Job Training Grant. In 2012, she was promoted to the Coding Program Manager. She was instrumental in the development and implementation of Continuing Education Seminars for students as well as incumbent workers. In February 2018, she was promoted to the Assistant Director of Health Information Management. She currently teaches Quality and Performance Improvement as well as Healthcare Management and Personnel.

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) selected Ms. DiLorenzo as the 2013 Rising Star, Triumph Award winner. The award is based on a new professional who has enthusiastically shown great promise for continued contribution to the future of the health information management profession. Ms. DiLorenzo is a member of the AHIMA and serves as a committee member, delegate and president (2018-2019) for the New Jersey Health Information Management Association (NJHIMA).  She is also a member the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Lisa Watlington MSN-Ed, RN

Lisa Watlington MSN-Ed, RN, is the first full time faculty member in the Health Information Management Department at Rowan College at Burlington County.  Ms. Watlington is a Registered Nurse with a background in emergency room nursing and critical care, who became a full-time faculty member after working as an adjunct at the College for ten years. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Science from Lock Haven University, a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, and a Master’s of Science in Nursing Education from Walden University. 

She has been a guest speaker at Continuing Education Seminars, educational symposia, and has written for publication about methods of student engagement and learning styles. Ms. Watlington was honored with 2011 Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by Lincoln Educational Services for her innovative teaching style and for bringing technology into the classroom. In 2015 she was asked to speak at the New Jersey Health Information Management Association Annual Coding Roundtable and conference. She has been involved in the redesign and development of several courses at RCBC, and participates actively in text reviews for publishers. Currently, Ms. Watlington teaches several courses in the Health Information Technology program including: Medical Terminology, Pharmacology, and Pathology, along with Anatomy and Physiology courses in the SMT department.
