RCBC grad one of only nine students inducted into program to diversify education field

Amiel Holliday, 20, was one of nine Rowan University students to be inducted into IMPACT, or Increasing Male Practitioners and Classroom Teachers, a program dedicated to diversifying the education field. Holliday, of Burlington Township, graduated from Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) with high honors last May.

“You are set up to have a large support system of people who are just waiting to talk to you and help you out with whatever you need,” Holliday said about the program, which supports education students through mentorship, professional development and experiential learning opportunities.

As a member of the second ever IMPACT class, Holliday will be mentored by other members, as well as Richard Jones, Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students at Rowan University.

“Mr. Jones helped me with a problem I was having at school on the spot, and even took time out of his very busy day just to talk to me to make sure everything else was going good,” Holliday said. “He encouraged me to push myself the extra mile and to never settle.”

Holliday describes his major as a five-year fast track to a master’s degree: over the course of his participation in IMPACT, he will earn a bachelor’s degree in history, and then a master’s degree in education the following year. Even after he graduates, though, he won’t be done with IMPACT.

“I plan to participate in IMPACT until I graduate, but to me, graduating doesn’t mean I will be done with all the great gentlemen who are mentoring me through my college years,” Holliday said. “There are so many students who would love to be in the situation that I was blessed to be put in, so I plan to give back to IMPACT in whatever way I can after I graduate.”
