Rowan College at Burlington County announces its 2017 Commencement Speaker, Wawa CEO Chris Gheysens
Chris Gheysens, president and CEO of Wawa, will deliver the commencement address at Rowan College at Burlington County’s (RCBC) 47thgraduation ceremony this spring, RCBC President Paul Drayton announced today.
“We are delighted that Mr. Gheysens will be part of Rowan College at Burlington County’s annual celebration of students who transformed their lives through education,” Drayton said. “As one of our Classroom to Career partners, Rowan College at Burlington County has a lot in common with Wawa: we’re growing quickly, embrace change with innovation and exist to serve others.”
Graduation will occur on Saturday, May 20 on the college’s main campus in Mount Laurel.
“I continue to be impressed by the entire community that makes up Rowan College at Burlington County,” said Gheysens. “RCBC is truly a model for accessibility, higher education and lifelong learning. It is truly an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to join so many students on such a special day.”
Wawa and Gheysens have supported the RCBC Foundation for many years with Gheysens serving as the keynote speaker for Celebration of Philanthropy in 2014. Last year, Wawa and RCBC formed an educational partnership that provides additional benefits to Wawa associates who attend RCBC.
“The transformative power of education can have great impact on individuals and organizations,” Gheysens said. “With its Rowan University partnership and Workforce Development Institute, the Classroom to Career pathway is stellar at Rowan College at Burlington County.”
Some recent keynote speakers include Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gregory Pardlo and Congressman Tom MacArthur.
The Rev. Aaron McCullough, pastor of the Calvary Bible Baptist Church will deliver the invocation. RCBC is partnering with the church to send supplies to schools being established in Africa.
