The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Burlington County, which oversees the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at Burlington County and is supported by Rowan College at Burlington County, is presenting two free events for New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries during open enrollment on Monday, Nov. 13 and Friday, Nov. 17.

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at Burlington County provides free Medicare counseling for Medicare-eligible individuals who have questions about their coverage options for the coming year.

“Rowan College at Burlington County is pleased to support the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Burlington County, which runs SHIP and provides a way for residents to receive one-on-one help navigating Medicare options,” said Rowan College at Burlington County Acting President Michael Cioce. “I encourage everyone who is eligible to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Medicare’s open enrollment period runs October 15 through December 7, and is the time of year when people can review their Medicare options and make changes to their Medicare coverage. Changes made during the open enrollment period do not take effect until Jan. 1, 2018.

“Medicare benefits and premiums could change for 2018. Even if you are confident in keeping your coverage for the coming year, it is important to confirm that your current plan is still the best available option,” said RCBC Vice President of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning Anna Payanzo Cotton. “SHIP is a great resource for the community. SHIP’s trained counselors can help answer Medicare questions and make the entire process easier.”

SHIP will hold a public information event on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Westampton branch of the Burlington County Library at 5 Pioneer Boulevard. There will be a presentation followed by a question and answer session.

There will be an open enrollment event on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at RCBC’s Willingboro Campus, 200 Campbell Drive, in room 220. Appointments are required, and can be made by calling (856) 222-9311, ext. 1494.

Anyone who cannot make either event can call (856) 222-9311, ext. 1494 to set up a free appointment with a counselor. SHIP volunteers are trained in the areas of health insurance and benefits and offer counseling sessions free of charge. They do not provide legal advice, sell, recommend, or endorse any specific insurance product, agent, insurance company or plan. They provide information and assistance so clients can make their own decisions.
