Reflections on Light Exhibit at Student Art Gallery

Street Colors - Charles Mueller

Light, as a compositional tool, subject matter, and source of inspiration, is the theme for Burlington County College’s Student Art Gallery’s new exhibit, “All Around Us: Reflections on Light,” opening on Friday, Oct. 3.

Artists of every medium — photography, digital and mixed media, drawing, painting and sculpture — explored the theme and elements of illumination. Twenty-one student, alumni, faculty and community artists, including featured artist Charles Mueller, an award-winning, internationally-known photographer from Manchester, New Jersey, are highlighted in the exhibit. There are 76 pieces of art, including 28 by Mueller, who has donated his entire collection to Burlington County College to help advance future photographers and create scholarships for photography students at BCC.

“I hope that my life’s work can help students learn the skills and art of photography,” said Mueller, who is recognized for depicting the maple-sugaring industry in Vermont and night at the last World’s Fair in New York City. “Every artist seeks to inspire and support the next generation and I encourage the public to support student photographers at Burlington County College.”

An artists’ reception, free and open to the community, will be held in conjunction with Mount Holly’s 2nd Saturday Arts Crawl on Saturday, Oct. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. at the gallery, located at 1 High Street.

The exhibit will be on display through Saturday, Nov. 8 during normal gallery hours: Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and the second Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“All Around Us: Reflections on Light” is a juried exhibit and was curated by BCC student, art major and Student Art Gallery intern, Dennis J. Walter.
