photos of three of Kieun Kwon's designs for a fashion show

Kieun Kwon is the Rowan College at Burlington County Fashion Department’s newest faculty member, but it wasn’t long ago that she was a student studying Fashion Design at RCBC.

Kieun overcame many hurdles to complete her degrees. Her journey began in Korea where she did not have the opportunity to study art and design. When her family decided to immigrate so their children could have better opportunities, they settled in New Jersey. Kieun influenced their decision to live in a community that had a college that offered Fashion Design. She devoted much of her first year at RCBC taking classes to learn English, as it was a second language for her.

A year passed before Kwon began her fashion courses. She eventually joined the Fashion Club and the following year became the club’s president, where she and the club played an integral role in planning the Annual Fashion Show, high school workshops and mentoring first year fashion students. Her skillful fashion illustrations were chosen for the Annual Fashion Show poster in 2016, and her outstanding design collections won her two awards. After Kieun graduated, she transferred to Drexel University to complete her Fashion Design degree.

Kwon stayed in touch over the next couple of years as she completed her degree at Drexel. The Fashion department was invited to witness the growth of her creativity and skills at her senior collection last spring ‘19.

Now, an RCBC Apparel Construction teacher, Kieun also works for a small design company in Philadelphia when she’s not teaching. She is excited to share with our students all that she gained when she was a student at RCBC.
