“We try to provide as much information as possible because the underlying issue with many first-gen students is that they lack the knowledge or feel behind because they don’t have that circle of family and friends familiar with the college admissions process. In essence, we become their first point of contact and information,” RCBC’s Assistant Director of Outreach and Admissions Bareeq Barqawi said. “We also try to create a rapport with them. I’ve connected with many first-gen students who don’t know what’s next and just need that extra guidance to get them to the finish line.”
“Rowan College at Burlington County thanks the military for their service and welcomes the opportunity to serve their educational needs,” RCBC President Dr. Michael A. Cioce said. “Whether you’re looking for quick entry into the workforce or a college degree, we have a path for you.”
Did you know that Rowan College at Burlington County houses a Military Education & Veteran Services department that has supported members of the military and their families for over 40 years?
RCBC’s “Global Studies Lecture Series” aims to bring world-renowned scholars and researchers to the college to engage and discuss with students and the public crucial and current issues in global security, conflict, health and environment. This initiative is supported by a recent U.S. Department of Education grant that will enable RCBC to establish a Global Studies degree designation, including the addition of a Global Studies course and high-demand language courses, such as Arabic and Chinese.
“I’ve learned to take every opportunity that comes at you. Even though we went fully remote in March, we were ready for an interview, knew how to present ourselves and were equipped with resume-building skills. I would say to do it because it’s a great resource to have,” Kennedy Vazquez, who now studies film at Rider University, said.
In addition to expanded course offerings, students have access to a plethora of virtual services, including tutoring, student support, counseling, and virtual walk-in services where they can meet online with both advising and registration.
“Strengthening Institutions will allow Rowan College at Burlington County to make substantial investments in our students that will improve their ability to succeed and complete degrees,” said RCBC President Dr. Michael A. Cioce. “This will have a profound impact on many students – particularly those who come from underserved communities – and make us a stronger institutional for all.”
