Frequently Asked Questions

Why study environmental science?
Environmental problems can be of a complex and integrated nature. As an environmental scientist you will be prepared to analyze issues from many perspectives and find solutions for the greater good of the environment and citizens alike.

What can I do with an Environmental Science Degree?
Graduates with a bachelor’s degree can pursue a variety of careers and pathways into the workforce, generally at state, local, and federal agencies and consulting firms. Environmental assessment, planning and management, natural resource studies or environmental education are just some of the career paths you may be qualified to perform.

What can I do with an associate degree in Environmental Science?
A two-year degree in environmental science will provide you with a foundation to transfer and obtain a 4-year degree in environmental science, which is a minimal requirement to secure a position in this field.

What is the job outlook for environmental science?
According to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of environmental scientists and specialists is projected to grow 11 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. Heightened public interest in the hazards facing the environment, as well as the increasing demands placed on the environment by population growth, is expected to spur demand for environmental scientists and specialists. More info about the job outlook for environmental scientists, including salary information and types of employment is available through the DOL website.

Are there opportunities to participate in Internships?
There are many opportunities to participate in internships all over the world to gain experience in the field. Rowan College of Burlington County also had an Undergraduate Research Program (UGR) that allows a student to register for a 1 or 2 credit course to perform research in environmental science.
