There is an intricate path between an RCBC student’s first day of classes and the first day of their future career. As the average student juggles academics, jobs and personal responsibilities, having a helping hand when it comes to reaching their dream job is invaluable.

The Office of Career Preparation and Experiential Learning assists students in multiple vital areas so that they can achieve their ideal careers. “We take a holistic approach to supporting students in any phase of their career development,” said Lisa Cardello, Executive Director of Career Preparation and Experiential Learning. 

Career preparation advisors ensure that students have the tools to succeed in their future professions. Personal strengths and interests are identified, and students can also explore different majors that align best with those strengths and interests. Cardello explained that her office empowers students through “one-on-one advising, programming, classroom presentations, and collaborating with faculty.” Finding a passion that you can turn into a career is optimal, and the Office of Career Preparation and Experiential Learning pursues that goal every day for their students. 

Experiential learning is a fantastic opportunity that gives students hands-on experience in their desired profession. This can look like obtaining an internship, on-campus employment or an undergraduate research opportunity. These options prime students for entering the workforce, ensuring that they have the necessary background to be the best candidate during their next job search. 

No matter what stage of readiness a student is at, they are encouraged to meet with a career advisor because the Office of Career Preparation and Experiential Learning’s integrated approach can benefit any RCBC student. Last September, Cardello’s office introduced Handshake, an online job and internship platform, to RCBC. “There are currently 1,850 employers connected with RCBC who are looking to recruit our students for jobs, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities,” Cardello detailed, so students can enhance their skills even if they don’t meet with a career advisor. 

In fact, the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) recently announced that the Career Accelerator program is offering 500+ paid internship opportunities for summer 2023! RCBC students are encouraged to check out the many available opportunities here.

This survey is aimed at students graduating this May and collects essential information about post-graduation plans. By participating, our future RCBC students now know the best strategies for undergraduates, and will be just as prepared for the future as the class of 2023.
