Welcome to RCBC! You made it here and we want to support your college experience from now to graduation! We believe in the success of all our students and in the spirit of valuing our diverse student body, BRAVE provides strategies for adjusting to college life, and connections with college resources, peers, faculty, staff & administration of color.

Mission:

BRAVE exists to empower and equip male students of color at RCBC with academic and college readiness skills that help them excel as leaders in both college and their chosen career paths.

A retention program at RCBC, BRAVE supports male students of color, particularly African American/Black and Hispanic/Latino male students to increase their success and graduation rates.

Participants join a community where they gain a sense of belonging and positive guidance through the following (5) five supports:

 

1: BRAVE MEN OF COLOR SUMMER INSTITUTE:

Three-day college readiness experience for first-year male students of color at RCBC. Bond with peers, gain tangible resources for academic success, and participate in empowering sessions that equip you with tools for professional development and a deeper understanding of being a male student of color in higher education.

 

BE BRAVE (Brothers Achieving Excellence)

 

August 14-16, 2024

10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Wednesday - Thursday - Friday 

 

This three-day college readiness experience provides First-Year male students of color with opportunities to bond and build strong networks and transferable life skills inside and outside of the classroom through empowering sessions on:

  • Academic Support / College Resources / Success Strategies
  • Professional development 
  • Being a Male Student of Color in Higher Education
  • Financial Management / Networking Strategies
  • Leadership Development / Time Management / So Much More!

Attend all three days to receive AMAZING INCENTIVES including:

  • Tangible resources for a successful college experience
  • Connections with Peers & College/Community Leaders
  • RCBC Swag Items
  • $500 Check*

*To earn this incentive, you MUST attend and participate in ALL three days and remain enrolled in at least one course after the course drop deadline.

2: CAFE CONNECT with MARCUS WHITE

Mondays & Thursdays @ 10-11 AM & 3-4PM Cafe Connect with Marcus logo

Casual conversations where BRAVE students can ask a dedicated RCBC staff member, Marcus White, any questions they may have about college, life, study resources, upcoming BRAVE events, RCBC important deadline dates, etc.

 

3: BARBERSHOP TALKS

Safe spaces to discuss topics particular to men of color in college. Barbershop Talks focus on building brotherly bonds. Each month we discuss topics such as mental health, professionalism, financial literacy, networking skills, and leadership development.

 

4: BRAVE CONSIDERATIONS

Empowerment series and success strategies to support leadership development to excel in college and life: Financial Literacy, Career Preparation, Campus Resources On & Off-Campus, etc.

 

5: FALL & SPRING CAMPUS TOURS

Gain inspiration to transfer to a four-year institute to further your academic pursuits via a bus trip to nearby colleges and universities through RCBC. 

  • Meet college ambassadors and learn campus culture
  • Connect with offices that support minority students
  • Meet admissions teams understanding the transfer process
  • Previous college campus tours included:
